PHOS Edelstahl Design - Architectural products from Germany

From the manufactory for architecture

PHOS is a manufacturer of high-quality stainless steel architectural products. As an owner-managed company based in Karlsruhe, we operate with a down-to-earth and values-driven approach. Quality, durability, and a clear design philosophy characterize our actions.

Our design follows the principle of reduction. This results in simple, functional, and timelessly modern designs that integrate seamlessly into clean interior architecture. Form and function form a cohesive whole.

The Origins of PHOS Design

For more than 30 years, PHOS has stood for the combination of craftsmanship, design, and lasting quality. The design, originally developed by Andreas Winkler in his Karlsruhe architectural office, stems from the planning phase and forms the design foundation of the brand. In the 1990s, a clear, minimalist design language emerged, conceived not as individual designs, but as a system.

From architecture to series production: This approach gave rise to a unique product system. Design, function, and constructive logic interlock and follow a consistent principle.

In 2008, Mario Grundmann founded PHOS Design GmbH and consistently translated this approach into his own manufacturing facility. The architectural origins were complemented by manufacturing expertise, a focus on materials, and industrial precision. This resulted in a clear position in the premium segment for architectural products and hardware.

The first products were manufactured in the basement of the company's original building. Individual components were supplied and then handcrafted, sanded, and assembled. With growing demand, in-house production was established.

A crucial step was the acquisition of the traditional metal workshop Theodor Faisst, which had previously acted as a supplier. This allowed us to strategically expand our vertical integration and incorporate our established craftsmanship into our own company.

Simultaneously, a modern manufacturing facility was built in the Karlsruhe Rhine port, where all steps are now consolidated. Digital manufacturing processes and meticulous handcraftsmanship work together seamlessly, enabling a uniform finish and high repeatability across our entire product range.

Our Partners and Customers

PHOS works closely with architects, planners, tradespeople, and specialist retailers. Our products are used in hotels, hospitals, public institutions, and private residential construction.

We develop solutions for specific spatial requirements, from standard products to custom-made designs.

Employees, Training, and Development

Training our own skilled workers is a core component of our company. We continuously invest in training and development.

Many former trainees now hold positions of responsibility within the company. This accumulated knowledge ensures quality, continuity, and the ongoing development of our systems.

Manufacturing and Sustainability

At our factory in the Karlsruhe Rhine port, we manufacture our products to order. Production is just-in-time and based on actual demand.

We produce using green electricity and within a closed-loop material cycle. Stainless steel is durable, fully recyclable, and designed for long-term use. Our products are designed for longevity and can be used for many years and repaired as needed.

Branding

Quality through integrity and teamwork

Only people who work hand in hand with enthusiasm and expertise can consistently achieve good results in the long term. We act with responsibility, fairness, honesty and integrity and utilise our best skills and knowledge. "What we do today determines what the world will look like tomorrow". This guiding principle runs through our entire daily work and is also reflected in our training practice. Our trainees are regularly among the best in their year.

We combine value-orientated management with an agile team structure. And we are convinced that the quality of our products is directly linked to good working conditions and the expertise of our entire team.

Timeless design

Our design follows the principles of clarity, straightforwardness and timelessness. Every detail is carefully crafted in our manufactory in Karlsruhe and finished by hand with a silky matt finish. The origins of our design go back to the designs of Andreas Winkler, who launched the PHOS design line in the 1990s.
